CAUTION! AWAS! WATCH OUT! Just a friendly hostile message that the following post will be long, and it may just alter your life perspective. Forever.

Have you ever felt different, like way way wayyyy different from anyone on this earth?

Different from your friends, your relatives, and perhaps, even your family?

I'm not talkin about being unique, because we all are, just simply by the one-of-the-kind fingerprints we possess. But, like as if, you are originally out of this world, that this current ground you are on just doesnt seem right for you, almost like you are an alien of some sort?

I do.

Now now. Some of you may think i must be crazy. Some wire must have been short-circuited in my brain, and you are close to reach for your phone and dial for woodbridge. Or that i'm obsessed or deluded because of the recent twilight streak that seem suspiciously deluding me (i've completed the first two books btw, and i'm fighting hard, like really hard to resist the temptation to read the 3rd and 4th.). Hence, the mad babbling.

Just hold that thought.

Allow me to continue my story, before you make any move.

Now, follow my instructions and breathe. And move your eyes to read on.

You see,

throughout my growing cycle I've always felt...kind of...peculiar deep within. Like i've a calling that i've yet to fulfill, that i'm meant to do something to help the society, to make a difference somehow.

It wasnt until recently that i managed to find a fellow counterpart who shared the same symbols, or should i say print, literally on themselves, that i finally got an answer. Or so it may be. For one of my hypotheses.

Do you remember one of the phases where you grow up feelin curious and interested in palmistry that you researched it online, maybe even go to a fortune teller, or allow your friends to have some fun poking and teasing on the lines regarding fortune, wealth, life, marriage and so on? Or maybe you are in that phase right now as i type.

Well, for me, it wasnt as easy to read or find the resources needed.

Mine was different. And it wasnt easy relating to anyone who has the same to even share some common chat topics.

Allow me to illustrate.

This is a typical palm that many of us possess. Having the heart line and the head line and another line plunging downwards.

I vividly remembered one of my friend sayin how when the two palms were put together, face up, to join the heart lines together, that the more "curvy" the lines are, the better looking your future husband/wife will be. So i did the same, palms together, face up. And it was fun, with my friends teasing me saying how my heart line and head line joined together to form a single line across the entire palm meant he is going to be down right fugly. So i always retorted with how my husband will be the "cha kuay teow" uncle across the street. What? They may be rich ok! Ok, no biases. Maybe just the chicken lice ah chek. But you get the point.

And then, one fateful day,

I went with my cousins and bro to Lorraine's 21st b'day bash and discovered, alleluia! another person having the exact same palms as moi! Hahaha and it was Philip, an old friend of our family who probably knows all our family's secrets and allll our not-so-glamourous side. LOL. I've been searching, peeping at other's palms whenever i can, and bam! I found it!

"AHHH! *chewing my curry chicken and bee hoon whilst eating*
You have the same palms too?!?! *showing him the surrender position*"

"OMG!!"

And then we chatted like we are in our own world. That's when i discovered that our lines were called the simian lines. The intensity of discovering a fellow mate possessing the exact same lines was hyperventilating. My face grew red.

He went on to explain that our palms used to originate from a powerful tribe and that we kinda "invented" the hello that everyone uses today. I was so intrigued that i went back home, and immediately researched about it. It was then that i discovered the tribe was called Parakee, or holders of the knowledge of the land, or manwolves ( i always have a fascination with wolves), who originated from the American Indians which we know of today. And others with the normal 3 lines are the Mahakah.

Simian lines also have a lot of other names, such as palmer crease.

And that only 4% of caucasians and 14% of asians have it on at least one hand. It is much rarer for anyone to have it on both hands (1%), and horror of the horror! I do have a double simian crease! And i actually found Philip who has them both too!
AHHHH MUMMMMMY! Goosebumps, anyone?

Right, my own mother has one on her left, and she refuses to admit that my right is one, due to a very slight curve upwards towards the index which are still joint and straight, even though my left is confirmed. I kinda know why she's so persistent, either she refuses to believe that her daughter is alien, or she thinks it's bad. Well, either way, i'm still stubborn, or "as obstinate as a cow" as she'll like to put it. It's hard to shake it off unless u have concrete proof. Yeah, literally.

And so, research states that simian creases are related to diseases like down symdrome or rebella syndrome or 9 others. But if you turn out to be normal, like me, or perhaps mentally not, then you are perfectly normal.

And it's associated with intense emotions and focus that can be a blessing or a curse.
No wonder it explains why i'm such an extremist. People who do know me may even mistaken it as mood swings. Or why when i'm holdin my favourite book (of cos not ALL), nothing else surrounding me matters. It between me, the first page, and the last. And the tinkling obsessive emotion after. Or, between me, the movie, and silence in between. If you start discussing with me questions or your opinions or your god damn predictions of the characters, i'll not only roll my eyes but build up anger quickly.

Perhaps, the answer is just right in front of me. I'm no palmistry fan, but simian lines aint no palmistry. It's like Philip said, dermatoglyphics, psycho-dynostic chirology and physiology.
Now, WTF did i just type??

To understand characteristics of simian line, here's what i found online. The amazement of internet.

1. Intense. So much so that people often assume that they’re angry. (And it doesnt help that i'm also a scorpio)
2. Complex, forceful, goal-oriented, and egocentric.
3. Achieve and accomplish far more than most, developing techniques and inventions that will last for generations.
4. Have an innate feeling of being different.
5. Supposedly experience more misfortune, also brought about by the intensity. (For me, perhaps, the intensity of clumsiness? LOL)
6. Compulsive.
7. May be destructive or creative or both. (maybe just not the drawing part. HAHA)
8. Only believe in blacks and whites, no gray areas.
9. Work twice as hard, study twice as hard, fight twice as hard.
10. A law unto themselves.

But of course, we have our own hurdles. And believe me, they are HARD to erase.

1. Other people can't keep up. Be more tolerant and understanding of this. Try not to judge others for not keeping up with you.
2. You always do a lot more than others. Same as above; be gentle on others for not having your gift. You will always do more because you can do more. Love this about yourself but also learn to manage your energy and set clear boundaries so that you don't burn out.
3. Your energy is either on or off. All or nothing. People around you might see you as inflexible and may not support you as a result. Seek their support through mutual respect of each others needs. Try to be conscious of when you are taking an extreme view.
4. Feeling and being misunderstood (the black box syndrome). Communication in both directions tends to get scrambled. Ask for feedback, double check communication if you think people have misunderstood you.

Typical examples:
a. Your intensity comes across as anger or frustration
b. people give their opinion and you hear it as criticism
c. You may come across as cold and aloof when you think you are being considerate

My jaw just dropped discovering that. My pandora box is now opened. Well, kinda.

So there. This is a trivial of the "simian-creased people". The word unique seemed to possess so much more meaning now.

But whether you are a parakee or mahakah, we have to co-exist. Mutually exclusive.
Some of the world famous characters who have them include Mohammad Ali, Tony Blair, Henry Miller and Radiohead singer! LOL.

So next time if you see me laughing at nothing funny, be serious when it's a lighthearted mood, or get anxious over a yoga session, do not be alarmed. It's just, well, me.

Now with this new knowledge, if someone called you an alien, perhaps you can welcome it with a smile.

And know, that you are indeed, truly special.
